Girls Gone Wild
Pretty darned depressing to see that my rapidly graying hair is more than skin-deep.
It's apparent that the graying is also affecting my deep-down soul.
When I see a picture like this one...

... my first reaction is not either:
1) "Wow! What sweet hotties!"
or
2) "Cool! Nice ra.. -- er, rifles."
Instead, my initial reaction is "Dammit girls -- clean-up your goddanged rooms!"
Sigh -- I am becoming my own father. I guess there's worse things though.

A Logical & Honest Politician?!? -- BZ!
A politician in St. Louis makes the stunning observation that "The community has to be ready to defend itself...". Awesome!
Although this is an obvious fact to almost all multi-cellular organisms, it is refreshing for a politician to recognize that the citizens can better protect themselves than can the gov't. It is even more breathtaking for the politician to publicly articulate his fact.
Attaboy to Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe, 72 years old. Apparently, Alderman Troupe is also against red-light cameras (another BZ!). Apparently, the liberals of St. Lois are no great fans of his -- complaining that a 1 year old who fell outta a 2nd story window of one of his rental properties is somehow Troupe's fault (not maybe the child's parents' fault?).

FOX News Sold-Out to Saudis?
Per Atlas, "...we could not help but notice the increasing Saudi influence at FOX News ever since the French riots of 2005 when after one phone call, FOX newscasters stopped calling the Muslim rioters Muslims.
I'm unsure whether or not this is actually true, but you can bet that I'll be watching FOX closely for any dhimmitude. At least tonight on Huckabee's show, he was calling it pretty-much straight.

You voted in record numbers to put Democrats in the White House and Congress. Unmarried woman supported Barack Obama by a 70% to 29% margin. And this should really tell you something ... there was a 44-point difference between the voting behavior of married versus unmarried women. Married woman already had their security ... single women were looking for it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say there are two factors at play. Unmarried women didn't like Sarah Palin – maybe they were intimidated by her ability to be a woman, a mother of 5, a governor, and be able to handle a shot gun. And unmarried women are eager to suckle the government teat. They feel insecure. They don't have a husband to provide ... so the government becomes their husband. Not a bad deal, I guess. The government provides you with the safety net you would normally get from a good marriage, and you're free to mess around pretty much as much as you want! They are just begging to be the beneficiaries of government and all the mediocrity it has to offer.

Is Bombay the prototype for future attacks upon US soil? I suspect that the answer is YES. I also suspect that the attacks will be just as effective in the US as they were in India.
The following points are most notable regarding this latest attack by Islamic Supremacists:
Soft Targets: The only relatively hard target was the local police station -- which they hit first in an (apparently fairly effective) effort to disrupt law-enforcement response. Other targets were as soft as possible -- hotels, private homes, religious centers, restaurants, etc. This multiplies the effectiveness of the attackers in a large metropolitan area by creating the fear that anyone and everyone is a potential target.
Low Tech / Affordable Weapons: AK47s, a few LMGs, and grenades. Dang! -- this is competitive with the DC Beltway Sniper in terms of affordability. The injuries wrought by such conventional weapons, although perhaps fewer in number than from a jetliner ramming into a skyscraper, are multiplied in their media effects -- injured (but still recognizable) bodies and great pools of blood have greater personal impact on the evening news.
Indigenous Elements in Assault Teams: Rumors report that Indians and British nationals were involved in the assault. As India is a former British colony, using these elements in the assault teams may have helped the attackers to remain unnoticed until they unveiled their weapons.
Multiple Simultaneous Assault-Teams: Greatly complicating the LE response was the use of multiple assault teams. This also multiplied the effectiveness of the terrorists.
Each and every one of these techniques can be used against the US. As superb as our Law Enforcement organizations are, they are not prepared to defend against this sort of assault.
One solace might be that American citizens have a high rate of firearms ownership and would be ready and willing to confront the terrorists directly -- without waiting for law enforcement response -- we the citizenry may be true first-responders.

Kohl's Cup Winners!
#1 son JO anchored his U19 Kohl's Cup soccer tournament team last weekend. BZ JO!!!
Here is their pic -- trying to look all "gansta" but only succeeding in looking like teen-age boys struggling for coolness. ;-)
JO is third from the right, in the brown hoodie.
JO was also designated as MVP for his age-group. WOOT!
This MVP award slightly compensated for him being red-carded for a perceived slide-tackle. He swears that he was actually tripped-up by another player -- but unfortunately the ref didn't see it that way. <:-(

The Nation's Gun Show
Went to the DC Gun Show at the Dulles Expo Center yesterday -- along with a couple of buddies.
It was farking cold! 27 degrees with a biting wind - ouch! The show's operators had mercy on those of us standing in-line waiting for the doors to open so they processed our admissions and then let us go back to defrost in our cars. Very considerate. BZ & thx.
Initially the crowd was pretty-much normal-sized, but more and more folks showed up until the place was packed around midday. Lots non-standard customers too -- a bunch of younger professional types (are camel-hair topcoats uniform-issue items?) and other folks who I've never seen there before. From talking to a number of the dealers, they are seeing MANY new faces among their customers.
This is very good in that we are expanding the base of the "gun-culture*". The only disconcerting thing is overhearing the questions being asked by a number of these nube gun-owners.
From "Does the magazine that I just bought fit my rifle?" to "How do I put the bullets into my new gun?", these questions showed that there's definitely a shortfall in firearms knowledge among first-time gun-owners. Ignorance is not necessarily a bad thing, so long as you are working to eliminate it.
FOR ALL NEW GUN-OWNERS: Please get yourself some official or unofficial training. Be safe out there!
Supply of Evil Black Rifles (EBRs) was not too bad, but prices were definitely spiking. AR lowers were up $50-100 from the norm. AKs were going for up to $1100 -- yegads!
Ammo was the big seller. Folks were slurping-up ammo (especially .223, .308, and 7.62X39 - but other stuff too) and reloading components like CRAZY.
I bought a few AK and AR mags. I'll order ammo online (I've already got ~10K rnds in-bound).

Christmas Gift?
Given the ascent of TEH ONE to the seat of Heaven on 20 JAN, the thoughts of all good little kids turn to prettily-wrapped packages under the tree of stuffed into stockings hanging above the fireplace.
Me -- I just built-up a new target-grade AR a few months ago. I also bought a 22LR bolt-gun from the CMP. So I can hardly feel deprived when it comes to flame-spurting steel-tubes. However, this is a cool variant of the Eevil Black Rifle (EBR) that I do salivate over:
A Bushmaster M17 Bullpup AR. Long out-of-production, but something cool to dream about while our Constitution still holds some value.

Gun Pron-1
A whole lotta truth here.
I just got back from teaching a bunch of boy and girl scouts basic rifle skills. We shot paper at first, but then finished-up with steel silhouettes, spinners, and a "dueling-tree".
The kids had so much fun they were glowing. Which was a good thing 'cuz the kids whined and weaseled "C'mon -- just one more target (25 rounds) -- pleeeeeeze!" until it was nearly dark.
The best thing that a parent or adult can do is to teach safe firearms-handling and marksmanship to the next generation.

The Berlin -- er, Beijing OlympicsIs anyone else out there as frustrated and incredulous as I am today? The Olympic games being hosted by Red China once again demonstrates our willingness to place profit above principle.
Have we forgotten the parody of the 1936 games hosted by Nazi Germany? I guess we have.
The Invasion of Poland -- er, Georgia
At the same time, are we seeing the repeat of the Blitzkrieg invasion of Poland from 1939? Russian armorer units pouring over the borders of Georgia is frighteningly reminiscent of this:
And once-again, the world sits by and yawns. This can only encourage Russian (and Chinese) adventurism/expansionism.History repeats itself... ... once again.
